BARCELONA, September 3, 2008 /FR/ – The opening event proposed by 080 Barcelona Fashion an event organized by Catalonia’s regional government and supported by the City of Barcelona, took place this evening in the famous old part of town, namely the “gothic’” quarter. An old patio with a nice colonade had been adorned with bright pink – the designer’s favorite colour – to welcome international guests. On the other end of an impressive staircase, upstairs, Miriam Ocariz has presented a very original exhibition called “From the Idea to the Catwalk“.
Miriam Ocariz is an illustrator, a fashion designer and an entrepreneur. The exhibition, curated by Marcelo Leslabay, investigates, thanks to an original journey through seven rooms, how the three professional profiles blend togeyher in this designer’s work.
Born in Bilbao, where she is still established, Miriam Ocariz combines in her work, particularly as an illustrator, an inspiration from childhood, an obsession with nature and a modern way of drawing which confines to primitive arts.
Although her work on garment architecure is very elaborate (maybe too elaborate to indicate one clear direction or enough confidence), her accomplishments achieved on prints is remarkabky pure and could even suffice to be worth being shown in a museum.
Among favorite rooms in the exhibit, one called “Camouflage” really stands out. Thanks to a partnership with a Barcelona-based wallpaper company called Tres Tintas, the designer has been able to cover the walls of the entire room to create an overwhel;ing at;ospher and presnt in the very middle of it several looks on mannequins composed of textile pieces displaying variations of the same print.
At the age of 39, after having graduated from the Pais Vasco University in 1992, taking a major specilization in screen printing techniques, after graduating also in fashion this time from the Lanca School, in Bilbao, Miriam Ocariz has gradullay consolidated her fame as a designer to be worth this original retrospective.
If you happen to be in Barcelona, the exhibition which opened tonight will last until September 21st and is really fascinating to visit. Both the experienced and unexperienced fahion lovers will certainly discover something about a fshion designer’s creative process by enjoying this refreshing, sharing and personal approach.
