Cooking up a collection of windbreakers to send down the runway for Paris Fashion Week seems as ironic as it does downright laughable, but when you do it with the set of skills that designer Miuccia Prada imbibes then it becomes groundbreaking. The designer revealed her latest fall/winter 2014-15 collection for Miu Miu of “more wearable, more real ensembles, and less pretension.”Such wearable, outdoorsy separates desire to be carefully constructed and styled in order to be highly desirable by the fashion masses, and Prada for Miu Miu really gets it. Quilted nylon plays a leading role in the collection on miniskirts, jackets, and short dresses. Oversized wool felt jackets in both long and short offer a utilitarian balance to otherwise flirty hemlines.Asymmetrical chevron stripes were present in knit dresses and quilted skirts, lending each piece a late seventies/early eighties aesthetic. Carefully placed plastic rainwear slickers stuck out from a number of nylon and wool jackets. The collection was definitely a fun, whimsical, and refreshing contrast to the couture of Paris.MMFW14_Look_24
