The designer, who has been in the profession for almost 15 years, was born in Barcelona, where she grew up, surrounded by fabrics in her mother’s seamstress atelier. This probably gave her a taste for refined details as well as the quest for perfetcion in their worksmanship. Teresa entered the world of fashion by doing a number of jobs, such as visual merchandiser. In fact, Teresa Helbig’s first creations were made through this job, directly on mannequins. Now in her current design studio and atelier, Teresa Helbig likes to experiment, to combine fabrics and obtain pieces mixing garment architecture with elaborate details. She has participated in various seasons of 080 Barcelona Fashion, and has answered FashionReporters’ seven question interview just a few days before her collection for Spring 2010 will hit the runway on September, 3.
What is fashion for ?
A great way to make a living.
If you were not a fashion designer, what would you be?
I’d be very sad.
What are you proud of ?
My family, my friends and the team that helps me put each collection together.
What are you ashamed of ?
No matter how many times I’ve tried, I just can’t quit smoking!
If you could keep only one agrment or accessory, which one would you pick?
Honestly, I don’t think there could be one piece of clothing or accessory that is so important to me that I’d need to grab it on the way out. of a burning building or whatever. Clothes, shoes and bags are great – believe me, I love them – but, in the end, they’re really just clothes, shoes and bags. When I need another one, I’ll design it or buy it.
What do you no longer believe in?
Ratoncito Perez (The Spanish version of The Tooth Fairy).
What do you still believe in ?
That someday I will be able to quit smoking…
