GORI DE PALMA ANSWERS FASHIONREPORTERS’ SEVEN QUESTIONS INTERVIEW
BARCELONA, August 15, 2008 /FR/ - Born in Mallorca in 1976, Gori de Palma is one of the designers from Catalonia showing his work early in September at 080 Barcelona Fashion.
Founded in 2004, the Gori de Palma brand has so far investigated collections where the designer was inspired by punk or gothic culture with SM or bondage connotations, for extremely sensual women.
A winner of several regional prizes for fashion design in Spain, Gori de Palma is answering today Fashion Reporters’ Seven Question Interview, as he is getting ready to show his collection for Spring-Summer 2009, which will go on the runway of 080 Barcelona Fashion on September 5 , at 12:30.
What is fashion for?
Fashion, in my eyes, is a reflection of what I have lived of my state of mind. And before everything else; it is an antidote respect to the vulgarity of our time.
If you were not a fashion designer, what would you be?
I have been a boat builder; I have restored vintage cars… Any creative job which I could accomplish with my hands would be satisfactory.
What are you proud of?
Of my last collection. Of the collection to come, which I need to unfold and reveal, for which I will go beyond my limits, which is the most moving for me and which I am so nervous and tense about, damn it !
What are you ashamed of?
Of the previous collections. Someone told me one day that a designer’s worth is based on his next collection. The past is the past, it was shown, it was sold, and, as always, it could have been better. But now I am anxious about the new show.
If you could keep just one garment or accessory, which one would you pick?
My black boots with a Cuban heel.
What do you no longer believe in?
I believe in finding a more personal style. Clothing is a form of expressing oneself; but it is important not to let oneself be carried away by the masses. In my case, I love dropping formal references to conceive a dream woman with a strong sex-appeal. I am always imagining new challenges; it’s a matter of asking questions to yourself.
What do you still believe in?
In God.
