TXELL MIRAS ANSWERS FASHIONREPORTERS’ SEVEN QUESTIONS INTERVIEW
BARCELONA, August 23, 2008 - Spanish designer Meritxell Miras Abella (born in 1976) made her début on the Gaudí Catwalk in Barcelona in September 2003 once she had founded her own label Txell Miras. Since February 2003, she has been designing in Milan the womenswear of British designer’s label Neil Barrett .
Her work for her own brand is based on the construction and deconstruction of form and very cleverly thought out transformation pieces.
In June 1999, Txell took part in ModaFad in Barcelona and , won, in November 2001, the “Insideouting” competition organised by Milan’s Domus Academy. In September 2002, she was a finalist in Tokyo’s “Grand Prix” and in July 2003, the Camera della Moda Italiana made her “Most Promising Newcomer”.
Txell Miras could be called a rebel with a cause and a different approach in the realm of fashion. Her highly conceptual collections are clearly showing that her work is closer to art than to plain garment-making. Glorifying glamour is not her goal, teh designer prefers to work elaborately on proportions, to fragment apparel architecture, explore a new language to reinvent the body.
Before her next runway show takes place at 080 Barcelona Fashion, on September 5, at 03:30 p.m., the designer who could be the next sensation in the world of fashion names on the rise, has answered Fashionreporters’ Seven Questions Interview
What is fashion for?
Fashion for me should give the possibility of wearing your personality and personal tastes on the outside. It constitutes the sophistication of the basic need of covering the body. It also reflects the evolution of society and is a means of making money.
If you were not a fashion designer, what would you be?
Doing something in a creative field. I love the movies, painting, drawing.
What are you proud of?
Of enjoying to work.
What are you ashamed of?
Of not speaking English.
If you could keep just one garment or accessory, which one would you pick?
If my house was on fire, the first thing I would save is a “bag-book” I made some years ago.
What do you no longer believe in?
In justice.
What do you still believe in?
In a certain sense of humour.
