XAVIER ZAZO AND CLARA BRULL ANSWER FASHIONREPORTERS’ SEVEN QUESTIONS INTERVIEW
BARCELONA, August 26, 2008 /FR/ - Xavier Zazo and Clara Brull believe clothes are a way of expressing what they feel. Based on their personal experiences they’ve created an imaginary world where each season they draw a new character from a story. They admire the tenderness found in the work of Joe Sorren, the mix of innocence and perversion that characterises Mark Ryden’s blood series, and the boundless imagination of the characters created by Tim Burton.
Since the label was created in 2000, Zazo & Brull has participated in the Salon de Moda and Pasarela Gaudí in Barcelona, as well as international trade shows such as Ideacomo (Italy) and the International Tokyo Fashion Fair (Japan).
The latest collections by Zazo & Brull was presented at 080 Barcelona Fashion in March 2008. Just a few days before they show on the catwalk their collection for Spring 2009, Xavier and Clara have answered (together) FashionReporters’ Seven Questions Interview.
What is fashion for?
To us, fashion is a creatvie means which enables us to express ourselves and tell a story, a distinct story, every time we prepare a collection.
If you were not a fashion designer, what would you be?
Well, then, we would imagine being what we are.
What are you proud of?
We are proud of being able to dedicate ourselves to what we like, of dedicating ourselves to something as creative as fashion and to be in grade of explaining a new concept every six months through our creations.
What are you ashamed of?
We do not like the way many things work in society as a whole, injustice and also that people might obtain things without any merit of their own, without work or dedication. Despair, ignorance and arrogance.
If you could keep just one garment or accessory, which one would you pick?
Xavier: My very first design made of jersey, cut and sewn by my grandmother.
Clara: my first Zazo & Brull dress… ample, light, black.
What do you no longer believe in?
In the magic wands that make dreams come true…
What do you still believe in?
In certain people.
