Chambre Syndicale Releases Tentative Paris Fashion Week Calendar

Paris Prêt-à-Porter (Womenswear) Spring-Summer 2009

PARIS, August 9, 2008 /FR/ – Although the opening ceremony for the Olympic Games in Beijing (China) is still on everybody’s minds and the competition is running high in world athletics at the moment, world fashionistas have yet another subject to study and examine close-up, the Paris Ready-to-Wear calendar which has just been issued by the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne et des Créateurs de Mode (France’s fashion governing body).

Some new names in this calendar (including Gareth Pugh who is showing on Paris for the first time, after having won the prestigious ANDAM Prize and also Shiantzy-Chen), some unusual changes in the order (Nina Ricci by Olivier Theyskens on day 2 instead of on the last day, why ?), some exceptional runway shows on the way (Sonia Rykiel showing for the first time at 09:00 pm could foretell some kind of special event), new designers from many coutries ( Egypt is one with Marie Bishara) and the big names we all love…

Some names seem not to have made it this season – or is it just “not yet” ? – (Robert Normand, Bless, Chado Ralph Rucci, Yuki Torii, Sakina M’sa), while others are moving for the first time from the “off” calendar to the official list of runway shows (Talbot Runhof, Peachoo Krejberg).

Among this season’s novelties will be the first runway show entirely devoted to womenswear by Kris van Assche for his own brand in the official calendar, the return of Cacharel and Guy Laroche in the official calendar for a runway show with their new Creative Directors, the second Paris showing of HRH Princess Sirivanavari Nariratana (granddaughter of the King of Thailand) for her brand Sirivanavari.

Perhaps, the most original news concerns Spanish designer Estrella Archs: she had been named , just before the same season last year, creative Director at cacharel but was not showing fir that company then. She introduced her own brand though on the Paris runway that same season. Just a few days after the runway shows were over, a Press Release announced that new Creative Directors were named at Cacharel. Last season , Estrella Archs did not show in Paris at all. And this season, the designer will be repeating in Paris the show for Fall 2009 which she will have shown at 080 Barcelona Fashion, on september 5. A very out-of-the-track policy for a young designer’s brand!

Time to study (although it’s still early in august) … Here is the full list.
