Dreaming of Spring: What to Wear When It (Finally) Arrives

DALLAS, Jan 25, 2011 / — Spring comes as a bright splash of colour and refreshingly light ladies dresses this year, reviving 70s glam with every shade of orange, bold prints, crocheted dresses, and wide-legged trousers. It is the ultimate revival of Studio 54 Bianca Jagger style glamour, presenting an effortless chic combined with comfortable pieces.

Trends for Clothing in 2011: Boho-Chic, Vibrant Colours, Bold Prints, and Sheer Maxi Dresses

Emilio Pucci spearheaded the 70’s glam look with white crocheted maxi dresses, white trousers, bohemian scarves, fringed accessories, and other boho-chic looks. Fendi and Diane Von Furstenberg, a mainstay of 70’s smart looks for ladies dresses, showcased posh silk jumpsuits in jewel-toned colours.

Louis Vuitton displayed metallic looks with plunging necklines and shockingly high asymmetrical hemlines. Etro and just about every other designer embraced vibrant colours and bold prints on everything from maxi dresses to blouses.

While we’ve already come to love the bohemian comfort of maxi dresses in past seasons, this season, designers added a sexy twist with the sheer maxi dress, opaque in all of the important places, but packing a powerful level of sex appeal and glamour.

Trends for Sandals in 2011: Spring’s Ultra-High, Ultra-Glam, Ultra-Chunky Platform Heels and Cuffed Metallic Flats

To complete the perfect 70’s glam look, designer sandals showcased every variation of ultra-chunky platform heels with wooden platforms from Jimmy Choo, chocolate brown leather platforms from Yves Saint Laurent, and cork platforms from Christian Louboutin.

The straps came in a wide variety of 70’s style looks, from the simple brown leather of Yves Saint Laurent to braided hemp from Miu Miu, metallic from Jimmy Choo, and leopard print from Giuseppe Zanotti. Paired with wide-legged trousers, the super-high, super-chunky platforms give you the appearance of endlessly long legs and height.

With platforms, it is safe to go a little higher than you would usually select for heels, with added support and stability in the toes, giving you a dramatically high shoes that you can still gracefully walk in. For flat designer sandals, Stuart Weitzman’s cuffed copper metallic sandals pair perfectly with the 70’s bohemian look, adding comfort to glamour, the perfect fusion of practicality and this season’s hottest trends.

Last spring saw a definite turn towards the 70’s and designers have expanded on the looks and options, innovating them and making them fresh again, but many of the looks from last spring remain fashionable, making it easy to add new pieces to your favourites from last year without a major investment.

By adding a few statement jewelry pieces to last year’s maxi dresses and adding a few key pieces like wide-legged white trousers and a sheer maxi, your wardrobe will easily transition into this year’s trends. When spring finally arrives, don your favorite boho chic scarf and dress as if to impress the doorman at Studio 54.
