Designer Mara Hoffman, known for her colorful, bohemian fashions, debuted her Spring/Summer 2012 Ready-to-Wear collection on Friday, September 9th at 2:30 PM in The Box at Lincoln Center during Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week.
The personal style of Mexican women such as famed artist Frida Kahlo served as inspiration for Spring; “Mexican Mamas,” as Hoffman describes it. The collection features many new silhouettes and fabrics.
Amazing new colorful prints (all custom designed in-house), including “Veracruz” (abstract tribal with pops of neon colors) “Woodcut” (white with woodcut design, offered in brown and blue), “Huipil” (geometric dots with bright orange and purple color-ways), “Ticker Stripe Embroidery”, “Weave” (black and white woven print) and “Techno Animal” (Bright colorful tiny animals), and a group of “Serape” striped knits.
There is also a group that features colorful neon embroidery over solid black or white silk crepe fabrics. In addition to original prints, the collection includes solid colors ranging from White, Red, Blue, Orange and Black.
The Spring collection features many great new shapes and styles, including several fantastic jumpsuits (with both long pants and short romper styles), easy tunics, tea-length column dresses and a new take on a ruffled peasant dress.
Details such as seed beading, embroidery and weaving are prevalent throughout the collection. Many of the styles feature a sexy sheerness, such as a long sheer skirt which includes an underlay so that no slip is required, as well as sheer chiffon pants with shorts underneath.
Sheer printed tops and tunics are worn with solid colored specially made bralets (a nod to her popular swimwear collection). Tops include sleeveless button-down shirts, drapy blouses and variations of her signature poncho tops and tunics; bottoms include high-waisted slouch pants, solid silk shorts and more.
As always, there are many amazing dress styles, from long dashikis and ruffle gowns to short, sexy strapless styles.
The Spring 2012 Presentation featured accessories by amazing new jewelry line Holst and Lee (http://www.holstandlee.com/) and custom made shoes featuring the Spring prints. The beauty team consisted of hair by Nick Irwn for TIGI (amazing styling, with hair wrapped with strips of fabric from the collection) and make-up by Lottie for Make Up Forever.
