NYC February 27, 2012
At NY Fashion Week Fall 2012 collections at Lincoln Center. Trends are already beginning to emerge including Asian influences, fur trim, black knee boots and metallic accents. Here are a few highlights from the past few days:
Forget about the clothes – well, don’t forget about them — but they certainly weren’t the star of this season’s Alexander Wang show. With impeccable stage direction and a cast of supers that included Karolina Kurkova, Joan Smalls, Natasha Poly, Maria Bradley, Shalom Harlow, and Gisele Bundchen, it’s will be near impossible for any designer to top Wang’s casting. The collection itself was minimalist and heavy on black with a few lighter moments. Most of the looks were monochrome and pieces were, for the most part, fashioned into stiff, almost robotic looks. Ironically, given the show’s cast, most of the models walked the runway with mesh mouth covers, though when the supers took to the runway they ended up taking them off before walking away. While edge is in the atoms at WANG he slipped in a moment or two that nudged toward a minimalist bourgeois, for example a shiny, crewneck sweater worn with a long straight leather skirt that wrapped in the front, creating a generous slit.
