Calvin Klein Fall 2012: Seductive Modernism

NEW YORK, Apr 3, 2012/ — Presented last Mar 22nd in New York, the Calvin Klein men’s and women’s apparel, jeans, performance and accessories for Fall 2012 is all about seductive modernism.

Apparel. Urban. Graphic.

Contrasts and subtleties cast a sensuous overtone on the season. Reflecting the light and darkness of the city, the palette is a gradient of black and bone. The effect is powerful and striking, while matte surfaces add a smooth toughness.

That soft attitude is enhanced with plush, supple, and subtly textured fabrics, such as a brushed wool tweed, ponte, and cashmere felt blend. The sculptural materials contour the body, creating silhouettes that play on volume – some streamlined and others oversized.

For women, the look is architectural and layered.

Unexpected cuts and proportions juxtapose masculine and feminine styling – as with a cream structured, peak lapel, midi length coat with a bold shoulder, worn over a black leather trimmed, sleeveless suit.

The pant is key this season, shown as a full, wide leg; a folded up men’s inspired crop; or an ankle length peg. Color blocking is also important, created with trims on a shirt or by layering opposites, as in a black sweater dress with a crisp white shirt underneath.

A modern, color blocked dress introduces a pop of seductive red in the line. The dramatic hue also stands out in a bold, solid pant suit. Elegant, polished nickel and gold details accent the line.

For men, fall offers a clean, tailored aesthetic.

A charcoal two-button flannel X fit suit worn with a crewneck merino wool sweater layered over a turtleneck one represents a new, formal way of dressing. A sporty color blocked shirt enhances the polished, modern feel. The other side of fall pairs contrasting shapes and textures, like a relaxed camel peacoat over a ribbed cardigan, for a smart, urban look.

A puffer jacket designed in soft, matte suiting material is combined with a slim white dress shirt and heather tie. A black asymmetrical top coat on top of a graphic tweed wool sweater and slouchy knit cargo pant from the new ck one men’s sportswear completes this relaxed sophistication. Bold black zippers and hardware throughout convey a masculine edge.
